Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) Program 

Summary:

CMA Accredited

Prerequisite: Advanced Care Flight Paramedic training.

Designed for Advanced Care Paramedics interested in broadening their scope and understanding of critically ill or injured patients, the CCP program expands on the advanced life support knowledge and skills that an ACP possesses and introduces more advanced approaches to the treatment and transfer of the patient.

Admission Requirements:

Activity Requirements
1.Written exam 70% minimum required
2. Practical Scenario (1) 70% minimum required
3. 2000 hours experience as ACPf as per Educational P+P
4. Letter of Recommendation from Medical Director
5. OSCE Performance Not eligible for admission if provisional in the previous 2 years
6. In good standing as ACP or PCP To be confirmed with Medical Affairs
7. Operational and HR Requirements All must be complete ( TDG, WHMIS, CPR) and current at time of entrance to program

8. Additional activities:

• FTO

• Teaching experience at Community College

• ACLS, NALS, PALS, etc

• Post secondary education

• Hours experience (over 2000 hrs)

 • Other professional certification

Points awarded for additional activities.

Prior Learning Assessment:

Program Duration:

Didactic – 10 months; Preceptorship time begins upon didactic / clinical component completion.

Evaluation and Grading:

Formative and summative assessments are conducted throughout the program, including: 


• Attendance logs


• Reading assignments (one per module)


• Aptitude quizzes (one per module)


• Problem-based skills analysis


• Problem-based oral scenarios


• Problem-based practical scenarios


• Clinical objectives


• Field objectives


• Midterm examination


• Final examination 
 

Seventy percent (70%) without critical error is the minimum requirement for all evaluations. 100% attendance is strongly encouraged to ensure success. Each didactic and lab component is presented only once. Should a student miss any component, a make up class or lab may be presented, however all expenses are incurred by the student for this service. 

An on-line grade book provides the student with constant access to their academic standing. In some cases make-up time may be difficult to arrange and might involve additional cost to the student.

TBD. Please make cheques payable to Ornge. Payment must be in the form of a certified cheque or money order only. Sorry, personal cheques or cash cannot be accepted. 

Course Location:

All labs are currently scheduled in Toronto. The Academy of Transport Medicine reserves the right to alter the location of course labs. Students are responsible for all costs associated with travel, accommodations meals, etc.
