Julie Keon  - Testimonial

On the eve of December 5th 2003, my husband and I welcomed our first and only daughter into the world. We had planned to have a homebirth attended by midwives and at the time of birth, after a straightforward and normal labour, our daughter passed meconium and consequently aspirated. A call was placed to 911 asap and our daughter was transported to the local hospital (2 blocks away) within minutes of birth. My husband went in the ambulance and I remained at home. The team from the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa was called and just after midnight, our daughter was flown to CHEO by air ambulance.

The inital care given by the doctors at the hospital and then soon after by the medics and CHEO team saved our daughter's life. Had we not had access to the service of an air ambulance, our daughter would likely not have survived. They even thought to take a polaroid photo of her to be given to me. We are always grateful that such immediate and professional care was given to our daughter in those first hours and to live in a country where this option is available.
