Captain Aaron Grubin

Meet Aaron Grubin, a Pilatus PC12 Captain and Training Captain from Ornge's Timmins Base.

Pilots

Ornge operates a fleet of both rotor and fixed wing aircraft. These aircraft allow Ornge the range of options needed to meet the unique challenges a province the size of Ontario presents. Our helicopters provide us a with nimble, flexible air presence that allows us to respond to calls in remote or inaccessible areas or on-scene for calls where urgent transport is needed and time is of the essence.
 
In addition to needing skilled pilots, capable of working in the varied Ontario environment with the ability to adapt quickly to changing environments, we also require experienced, knowledgeable aircraft maintenance engineers to ensure our aircraft are maintained to Ornge’s high safety standards and are operational and available to transport patients across the province.

Fixed Wing Captain

The Ornge fleet consists of both Rotor and Fixed Wing aircraft. Our Fixed Wing pilots fly the Pilatus PC12 at 3 of our 12 bases across the province.

Fixed Wing Captain

POSITION SUMMARY:

Fixed Wing Captains at Ornge are responsible for the operation of the Pilatus PC12 aircraft as well as the safety of the crew and all persons on board the aircraft. All Ornge pilots are required to complete the company’s training program and successfully pass a PPC/IFT check conducted by a Transport Canada Inspector or Approved Check Pilot. They are responsible for following all applicable policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid ATPL
  • 2000 hours total time
  • 500 hours pilot in command
  • Current IFR (minimum Category 3)
  • Valid Class 1 Medical
  • Valid Canadian Passport of ability to work in Canada and the ability to travel to the USA
  • Immunization records with required vaccinations
 
Hours and location of work:
  • Pilots are required to work various shifts and overtime, including day and night shifts and weekends in a 24/7 environment, including days, afternoons and nights on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays. 
  • During the course of their shift duties Pilots will be required to overnight away from their home base.
  • Successful candidates must live or be willing to relocate to within close proximity of the assigned base location, and reside or have a location that permits compliance with the CARs rest requirements between shifts and allows for arrival at their assigned base within 1 hour of callout when on an on-call shift.
Employees may be required to use respiratory protective equipment.  They shall co-operate in attaining an effective fit of the equipment and in particular, be clean shaven to ensure an effective facial seal to provide for the health and safety of all employees.

Rotor Wing Captain

The Ornge fleet consists of both Rotor and Fixed Wing aircraft. Our Rotor Wing pilots fly the AgustaWestland AW139 at 7 of our 12 bases across the province.

Rotor Wing Captain

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pilot-in-Command is responsible for and has final authority over the safe operation of the aircraft they command, including the safety of all persons on board.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Airline Transport Pilot License - Helicopter - ATPL  (H)
  • 2000 Rotary Wing hours (500 hours Pilot-in-Command multi-engine)
  • Two years’ experience in Instrument Flight Operations
  • Valid Group 4 Instrument Rating
  • Valid Class 1 Medical
  • An AW-139 Type Rating, Pilot-in-Command AW-139 and EMS experience is desirable
  • Ability to successfully complete the Controlled Goods Security Assessment Application for Night Vision Goggle purposes
  • Valid Canadian Passport or ability to work in Canada and the ability to travel to the USA
  • Immunization records with required vaccinations
  • A Criminal Record Search is a requirement for this position;

Rotor Wing First Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Second-in-Command (SIC) assists the Pilot-in-Command with the flight planning and
Aircraft preparation as directed by the Pilot-in-Command. They are responsible to the Pilot-in-
Command for carrying out specific duties in connection with the operation of the aircraft to which
they are assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid commercial Rotary-wing (H) license
  • 500 Rotary wing hours
  • Completed ATPL exams
  • Valid Group 4 Instrument Rating
  • Night Rating
  • Valid Class 1 Medical
  • An AW-139 Type Rating and EMS experience is desirable
