Our Core Business

Ornge’s core business is providing timely patient transportation involving a range of paramedical services, by air and by land, including:

  • Emergent and urgent interfacility transport
  • Emergent scene response
  • Repatriation of interfacility patients
  • Non-urgent transport based on geographic and population needs
  • Support for healthcare in remote communities through new and innovative approaches
  • Provincial Transfer Authorization Centre (PTAC) authorization in support of public health objectives
  • Transportation related to organ transplant

Our Fleet

Ornge owns a fleet of aircraft and land ambulances operating out of 14 bases across Ontario. Vehicles in our fleet include:

  • 8 Pilatus Next Generation PC-12 airplanes,
  • 12 Leonardo AW-139 helicopters, and
  • 13 Crestline Commander land ambulances.

Pilatus Next Generation PC-12

There are more than 70 Pilatus PC-12’s being used as air ambulances by agencies worldwide, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia. At Ornge, we have eight PC-12 aircraft located at our bases across the province.

Leonardo AW139

Leonardo AW139 helicopters are currently being used by the Los Angeles Fire Department, Maryland State Police, New Jersey State Police and Vancouver Island Helicopters. Ornge has 11 Leonardo AW139 across the province.

Crestline Land Ambulance

Ornge uses Crestline Commander Land ambulances to provide interfacility Critical Care Land Transport for the patients of Ontario. We have three dedicated land ambulance bases located in Ottawa, Peterborough, and Mississauga (GTA).

Locations

A vital part of Ontario’s health care system, Ornge provides high quality air ambulance service and medical transport to people who are ill or injured. In the air and on the ground, our job is to be there for patients, so they can get where they need to be.

Ornge serves more than 13 million people over one million square kilometres of land— the size of France, Spain and the Netherlands combined.

We have the largest air ambulance and critical care land ambulance fleet in Canada, and perform approximately 20,000 patient-related transports per year.
