How do the pilots decide if it’s safe to fly?

The Pilot in Command has the final say in all decisions regarding safety of the passengers and crew.  The Captain will assess all factors including, but not limited to:

  • Weather conditions at the point of origin, the destination and en route
  • Airport or helipad conditions and restrictions

Using this information, the pilot will determine whether it is safe to accept a mission.

Can I hire Ornge for a private transport?

Ornge provides air ambulance and associated ground transportation services for the province of Ontario, under the direction of the province's Ministry of Health. Use of Ornge for private transports or repatriation services is not permitted.

There are many organizations throughout Ontario who provide private patient transport services. Most can be found online by searching for ‘patient transport service’; however, if you are having difficulties finding an organization, please feel free to contact our Patient Advocate, who may be able to provide you with a list of services:
